A Faulty History

Within the past month, Los Angeles has experienced not 1, but 2 mild earthquakes that were large enough to shake things up a bit. And all along California, I've been noticing reports of earthquakes recently.  Thankfully, there were no serious damages or injuries reported from these recent shakings. The reason for these quakes means that there is substantial pressure on two (or more) plates that are pressed up against one another, usually driving one up and the other down, or side to side, which cause the violent shaking. This past week, as I came home from my vacation, I was able to visit Pinnacles National Park, which is southeast of Monterey, CA.  The park sits right on top of the San Andreas Fault Zone, I know, not the best place to visit with so many recent earthquakes happening recently, but I was only there for a short amount of time.

Speak from the Ground

Isaiah 29:4–6 (NIV) Brought low, you will speak from the ground; your speech will mumble out of the dust. Your voice will come ghost like from the earth; out of the dust your speech will whisper. But your many enemies will become like fine dust, the ruthless hordes like blown chaff.  Suddenly, in an instant, the Lord Almighty will come with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with windstorm and tempest and flames of a devouring fire. Isaiah 29:11–14 (NIV) For you this whole vision is nothing but words sealed in a scroll. And if you give the scroll to someone who can read, and say, “Read this, please,” they will answer, “I can’t; it is sealed.” Or if you give the scroll to someone who cannot read, and say, “Read this, please,” they will answer, “I don’t know how to read.” The Lord says: “These people come near to

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

Ain't no mountain high enough, Ain't no valley low enough, Ain't no river wide enough, To keep me from...you A popular song in the 60s amd 70s by Marvin Gaye. While a catchy song, someone else wrote something very similar first in His love letter to all believers. Romans 8:38-39 says: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." The Apostle Paul helps pen one of the most foundational truths of the Christian belief. Because of what Christ did, absolutely nothing can separate us from God's love. I've been to the top of Glacier Point, to Yosemite Valley's meadow below, hiked along Merced River, and it simply amazes

One Thing God Wants You to Remember at Christmas – Advent Devotional – December 14

One Thing God Wants You to Remember at Christmas Sharon Jaynes Today’s Truth And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV). Friend to Friend With Christmas, it’s easy to get so busy with the cooking, decorating and shopping that we forget why we’re doing all this in the first place. Sometimes, the very people we love get lost in the hustle and bustle of packed schedules, holiday parties, and Christmas musicals. Several years ago I wrote a Christmas version of 1 Corinthians 13 to help me keep my focus on what Paul deemed most important of all… love. As part of our family tradition, I pull it out and post it somewhere in our home as a reminder of what’s really important during the holiday season. And since you are now part of the family, I’m pulling it out for you. 1 Corinthians 13 Christmas

5 Ways God’s Christmas Gift Keeps on Giving – Advent Devotional – December 13

5 Ways God’s Christmas Gift Keeps on Giving (John 3:16) by Lynette Kittle “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”– John 3:16 Growing up the first Scripture verse I remember memorizing is John 3:16. I loved hearing it and repeating it to myself and all who would listen to me recite it. It not only tells of the very first Christmas present ever given, the gift of Jesus, but also assures me of God’s love, where Jesus came from, and God’s purpose in sending Him. Considering God’s priceless present to the world, the holiday season is an opportune time to share with family, friends, and those around us, 5 ways God’s Christmas gift keeps on giving: 1. The Gift of Love Love does not exist outside of God. He is the only source

The Man Who Tried to Stop Christmas – Advent Devotional – December 12

The Man Who Tried to Stop Christmas Then Herod called for a private meeting with the wise men, and he learned from them the time when the star first appeared. (Matthew 2:7 NLT) King Herod was the man who tried to stop Christmas. With all his wealth and power, he came to complete ruin. Historical writings tell us that in the final year of his life, his body was infected with disease. Ironically, Herod pretended to be a worshipper. He said to the wise men, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!” (Matthew 2:8). Yet Herod was a false worshipper. There are people like him today. They say they believe in God, but they live a life that contradicts what the Scriptures teach. Herod wanted to be the king of his
